Our Impact

As a division, we provide a wide range of programs, services, and opportunities for students to learn and develop.  The impact of our work is far reaching. Below are some highlights from the past year.

The Division of Student Affairs has over 950 student employees including fitness instructors, office assistants, lifeguards, resident assistants, program coordinators, and a variety of other positions.

Each year, Dr. Whitely hosts various lunches with Board of Trustee members and various student groups. This year Trustee Berkowitz, Trustee Havenick, and Trustee Miller have met with international students, freshmen, graduate students, and several other groups to get their perspective on the UM student experience. 

12,580 students engaged in community service in the Greater Miami Community made possible by our Butler Center for Service and Leadership.

UM students completed 157,489 community service hours!

Students involved in Greek Life raised $816,418.30 for the Miami community. 

Alternative Spring Break sent 150 students to 16 communities engaging in 6,000 hours of direct service across the USA during the fall, winter, and spring breaks.

2,075 students participated in cultural celebrations including Black Awareness Month, Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Native American Month.

We opened the new LGBTQ Student Center in Fall 2016 and have professional and student staff providing resources and campus programming.

An undergraduate student organization, Get Out the Vote, hosted a nationally televised Election Night Watch Party in our Rathskeller for students and the UM Community.

2,000 students access the Herbert Wellness Center daily. The Center just celebrated their 20th Anniversary!

Multicultural Student Affairs hosted 190 students for Senior Mwambo, an African rite of passage ceremony marking the transition of Black graduates. 

3,500 graduates walked across the stage at Commencement thanks to the direction and volunteers from Student Affairs.
